Is Pay Per Play bad?

Some days ago i pointed your attention towards an opportunity to get a 100% conversion rate on your website traffic: Pay Per Play.

Now a post by UK-Blogger Ben Barden made me realize, that there might be some evil potential in Pay Per Play. So i asked myself: is Pay Per Play bad?

Seems i was focusing too much on showing you the opportunity to monetize your traffic and to earn as an affiliate too. So that i didn’t notice how obtrusive an unwanted audio can be to a website visitor or blog reader, even if its only 5 seconds long.

So what seemed like a sure and quick buck at first, might be offensive to your visitors and make them wave good bye to your site. Loosing a visitor or reader is sure something none of us really wants to risk.

But that is not only a problem with Pay Per Play, it’s a general problem with advertising on a blog or website, be it Pay Per Click, Pay Per View or Pay Per Play.

How many ads is a visitor going to accept before he gets annoyed?

Perhaps the banner blindness will soon be followed by a video blindness and audio deafness too. So every publisher or blogger would have to focus on plain text and good content again. Wouldn’t that be a good thing?

Now back to the question: is Pay Per Play bad? Yes and no i’d say. Depending on your site and your clientel you could take a risk to loose visitors / readers by implementing it, which sure would be bad. But if you feel like taking this risk, and Pay Per Play would fit in or won’t bother your “audience”, than there’s still the chance to earn.

What are your opinions on the good and bad sides of Pay per Play?
