How To Get Your Message Across
From time to time i discover a rare gem amongst all the video junk that marketers sweat out to the crowd nowadays, just because some “guru” has decided a while ago video is “in” and a “must-do”, and now all the Internet Marketing Monkeys mimic each other to death again, like they always do.
If they’d only start using their brain instead, they might realize that nobody, not even somebody scouting the scene like me, has the time to watch it all, and that less would surely be more.
O.k., enough ranting and raving now, let’s get back to the video gem i found for you …*-).
It’s about how to get your point across to any personality type by answering 4 simple questions.
Here’s a brief summary:
According to educational theorist David Kolb the people you deal with – your audience, prospects, clients, customers – can be categorized as one of the following personality types
- Sales Personality
- Scholastics
- Technical Personality
- Advocats (and Marketers)
Each of these personality types has different filters for learning and dealing with reality, and they seek answers to different questions.
The salesy ones will typically ask “why”, like for instance “Why should i buy your product?”. They look for the benefits.
The Scholastics are curious about purposes and practical results, and will ask “What for?” and “What can i accomplish with it?”.
Technical Personalities care about how things work, how they do what they do. Thus their question typically is “How does it work?”.
Advocats and Marketers are regarded as more “creative”. They look for other ways than the obious ones to utilize something. They are going to ask “What if?”. Like for instance: “What if i use xyz to …?”. Or: “How to use xyz to make money?”.
Conclusion: if you cover these 4 simple questions – for instance in your video or sales copy, you will get your message across to 99% of your audience successfully. This way you’ll be able to earn trust, build rapport and convince people to take the action you want them to.
Ironically this helpful video gem was posted by Mike Koenigs, the co-founder of TrafficGeyser, a service helping marketers to spread their video junk …*-)

Interesting. You just need to work out which is the predominant type visiting your site and tailor content to them.
