Are Giveaways Dead?

In the last post i voiced serious doubts that Giveaways will have the same listbuilding results in the future as in the past.

Here are the reasons why:

First of all Giveaways seem to happen all of the time meanwhile.

So there’s nothing special anymore about them. The event-attraction is gone.

One just doesn’t know which Giveaway to head first. It’s a sort of Giveaway inflation (pretty much the same as with all the product launches ongoing lately).

Second, i participated in some of the recent Giveaways and found that more or less the same old worn-out freebies are given away over and over in nearly each Giveaway event.

Third, i noticed an overall poor quality of the way the offers made were presented:

  • links were often outdated or didn’t lead to a freebie, but to a paid membership site etc.
  • some ebooks and reports were offered mutliple times in the same giveaway etc.
  • disordered and non categorized or grouped offers force the visitor to scroll through all pages of a Giveaway to find out if there is something of interest

Fourth - if you visit a Giveaway, do you really want to loose yourself in endless sign-ups for each little freebie?

Well, some smart fellows offer you now to pay a fee to be able to download all the “goodies” without having to register over and over again.

Huh? Hold on for a moment! Paying a fee for a free Giveaway …? Quiet a twist in concept by theese daring Internet Marketers.

Paying for getting a nag removed?

What kind of value does that create for you as visitor of such a Giveaway?

So, are Giveaways dead? Or just valueless time wasters?

Yes and no, i’d say from my experience.

Giveaways held in the old style are a dying species, that’s sure as day follows night.

The future of Giveaways as an instrument for listbuilding and stimulating follow-up sales will depend strongly on the abilities of the Internet Marketers to offer something of real value to the Giveaway visitors.

And when it comes to value, less would surely be more.

Less Giveaways, less crappy offers. More value to Giveaway visitors.

Result: more happy visitors, more leads, more follow-up sales for the Giveaway contributors as providers of value.

Here are three examples for great value-packed “future-style” Giveaways:

You can get all the fantastic free stuff there until the end of March as far as i know, so better be quick.

You wouldn’t want to miss out on any of this Giveaways, believe me …*-)

What is your opinion on Giveaways? What kind of experience did you make with Giveaways? Which ones you like better - “old-school” or “future-style?
